The Effect of Artificial Intelligence-based Adaptive Learning Systems on the Development of Critical Thinking Skills and Learning Motivation among Seventh Graders of Science in Oman
Main Article Content
Abstract
The main aim of the present study was to examine the efficiency of the AI adaptive learning environment as a tool for developing critical thinking skills (analysis, evaluation, inference) and improving learning motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic) among the students of Grade Seven in the field of science at the Sultanate of Oman .Quasi-experimental pre-post research design was used, consisting of two groups – an experimental group and a control group .While the first one used the AI adaptive learning environment, the second one was involved in receiving traditional instruction .The total number of subjects included in the study amounted to 120 participants, selected randomly and equally divided into the two groups .Data collection tools were the following – Critical Thinking Test (developed specifically for this study) and the Learning Motivation Scale based on the Self-Determination Theory .The instruments have been pilot tested to prove their reliability and validity .Differences between the groups on both constructs were statistically significant in favor of the experimental one along with a large effect size.
